The European Data Protection Board has issued a binding enforcement decision requiring LinkedIn to immediately cease using EU member data for AI model training โ including the training of its recommendation algorithm, its "People You May Know" feature, and its AI writing assistant. The company has 90 days to demonstrate compliance and must independently audit its training data sources.
The ruling, which follows a two-year investigation triggered by complaints from the Irish Data Protection Commission (LinkedIn's EU headquarters jurisdiction), sets a precedent that privacy advocates are calling "the most significant GDPR enforcement action since the 2023 Meta decision."
